5 ATTRACTING & ADDRESSING AUDIENCES

How did you attract/address your audience?

In order to attract our audience, we used the same techniques that a professional distribution company would create:

poster for P & A
film website
Facebook page
Instagram, Tumblr,
 and a Twitter feed.
All these platforms are linked, creating a synergistic whole.

Facebook:

Facebook is a popular free social networking website that allows registered users to create profiles, upload photos and video, send messages and keep in touch with friends, family and colleagues. I have decided to create an Facebook page for our film opening in order to attack and address audiences.  The Facebook page is operated by myself however my group sends me pictures and posts that they want to be posted. Therefore created a effective Facebook page for our production team.

A successful Facebook page is 'A Field of England'. This film was special in that it was released on 5 July 2013 on multiple platforms simultaneously, including cinemas, home media and video on demand. I have based our film opens Facebook page on the success of the Film "A Field of England'

Instagram:

Instagram is an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing, and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, and share them either publicly or privately on the app, as well as through a variety of other social networking platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Flickr. In my group, someone has decided to create an Instagram account for our film opening in order to attract and address audiences. To create this Instagram account I had to make an email that we, as a production, can use focusthemovie@hotmail.com.

A success Instagram page that was used to attract and address audiences is Star Wars: The Force Awakens. As they already have a large audiences from the previous films they automatically got a large following. Through using hashtags and posting regularly they have created a successful Instagram.

Twitter:

Twitter is a free social networking microblogging service that allows registered members to broadcast short posts called tweets. Twitter members can broadcast tweets and follow other users' tweets by using multiple platforms and devices. Tweets and replies to tweets can be sent by cell phone text message, desktop client or by posting at the Twitter.com website.

I decided to create a professional twitter account after reading an article by Alan Rusbridger "Why Twitter matters for media organisations". The article states that Twitter is a great platform for distribution which I think will come in handy when my group create a film opening. We could share it on twitter which could make it accessible by millions of people. The articles goes on to explain that Twitter is one of the biggest search engines and that most news are first published on there. It also is said to be that Twitter can be a great way to get feedback and also that it is an amazing form of marketing.Twitter can be used as a distribution tool for our movie as the 'retweets' can help make it go viral and also the use of 'hashtages' (#)

On my twitter I will post things about media that I am interested in, for examples movies that I have recently seen and will also follow people from the world of movie making and media. I will also retweet tweets about or media film "Focus".

Tumblr:

Tumblr is a microblogging platform and social networking website founded by David Karp and since 2013 owned by Yahoo! The service allows users to post multimedia and other content to a short-form blog. I have decided to create an Tumblr blog for our film opening in order to attract and address audiences. I created the Tumblr to help convey our main character by posting pictures or posts that he would relate to.

An example of a success Tumblr blog who did this was Wolverine. The Tumblr page help the audience to create a strong relationship withe the main character Wolverine.

Poster:

My group decided to create a poster to help attract and address audiences. Despite, this form of advertising, not being a social media platform, it is still essential in attracting and
addressing an audience. I toke the close up shots of our main protagonist and Bea/Alex edited and created the poster.
Here below is the finished product and here is an example of one of my photoshoots for the poster.

  1. Excellent understanding of the significance of communicating with your target audience. Your very comprehensive spraed of audience-facing creations created specially for your own production (film website, Twitter, FB, Instagram, Tumblr, film poster)shows that you made very effort to seek feedback from your target audience and reach out to them. All beautifully convincing creations.
